Keeping a blog

Keeping a blog is a good way to practice writing, and it also provides a central hub for online self-study, because it allows you to keep links to useful sites in one place. Try to write at least one blog post per week, and try to vary the types of post you create.  You could write, for example:

- about a story in the news
- a summary of something that you have read
- a review of a film you've seen
- a diary of experiences in the UK
- a record of your studies, thinking about which approaches work for you (and which don't)

Posts don't all need to be text-intensive.  You could post a photo that you have taken or a picture that you like and ask other students to comment. Here's a painting that I really love, for example:

This is Landscape with the Fall of Icarus, painted by Pieter Bruegel the Elder in 1558.  I first became aware of this work of art through a poem by W.H. Auden, which you can read via this link.  Leave a comment and let me know what you think of the picture or the poem.

It's easy to embed video clips in blog posts.  You can post songs that you like (or hate) and ask for opinions from your readers.  Here's a stupid song that has an entertaining little story:

You don't need any great technical ability to keep a blog with blogger.com but please let me know if you need any help, and I'll be happy to lend a hand.

Happy blogging!
